Allison McNatt L.James Adv. Eng. 10 XX September 2023 “To Build a Fire ” The heartbreaking narrative of a man who chooses to travel alone through the dangerous terrain of the Yukon, displays a dangerous decision to travel alone.
Chris McCandless got out of the woods and found a job for a few years where he worked very hard non stop action he would never quit on anything he did. He lived in an apartment for a few more months where he slept and ate for a month and then went back to the wild where he would live for a few more months. 1 or 2 months later his mom and dad found him and took him back home where he would be for around 1 day and leave the next day. He would go back to Alaska to live a better life until it was over for him Chris McCandless lived there most of his life but died at a young age. Chris McCandless could only live off berries because it was not a moose hunting season he would have gotten arrested and put into jail if he were to do this.
Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer tells the story of a young traveler who ventures to Alaska in hopes of testing his abilities. There, he ultimately starves to death due to his unpreparedness. Chris McCandless was reckless and unready, and it cost him his life. He made dumb mistakes but altogether, he was a courageous young man who deserves to be praised for his bravery.
He inspired British people to believe in the abolitionist movement. His British friends admired his work that they bought his freedom from his owner. He returned to America as a free man and continued his fight for the freedom of
Jack London 's writing is harsh poetry. He describes scenes in such detail. Reading his work makes you picture how the scenes look in your head. He shows a deeper meaning in the events of his stories(Napierkowski). The point of view of the story is third person limited omniscient.
This book is a great story about a man who struggles to survive in Alaska and eventually dies from poison which was from potatoes that he collected. His last note before he died was, “‘S.O.S. I NEED YOUR HELP. I AM INJURED, NEAR DEATH, AND TOO WEAK TO HIKE OUT OF HERE.I AM ALL ALONE, THIS IS NO JOKE. IN THE NAME OF GOD, PLEASE REMAIN TO SAVE ME. I AM OUT COLLECTING BERRIES CLOSE BY AND SHALL RETURN THIS EVENING.
Jack London was a prominent writer from the early twentieth century who came from humble beginnings in San Francisco. He produced such famous pieces of work as The Call of the Wild, The Iron Heel, and White Fang. London from an early age lived an adventurous life, he worked many jobs and even survived a “harrowing sealing voyage” in 1893. He decided to enter his tale into a writing contest which he subsequently won, and at the age of seventeen he decided to dedicate his life to writing stories. His first successful book, The Call of the Wild, published in 1903 which only furthered his drive to write ("Jack London Biography.").
In the story "To Build a Fire", the character was in a freezing cold place that is -75 degrees cold, and he has to travel almost an entire day in order to reach his destination at 6 pm. Before he went, he had ignored the suggestion that traveling in this temperature is a bad idea and went on his journey anyways. At first although it is cold, he could still handle it. However, when he decided to travel on ice rather than the ground, things wen downhill as he accidentally stepped into water and wet his let. Now the man is at stake because if he doesn’t dry his wet leg he will freeze himself and die in the snow.
A story about a man that ignores all warnings being thrown his way about the harsh conditions he will endure along his excursion through the Yukon.
The individuality that Jack London creates among the characters is so diverse it hooks readers because of how different each person is, but yet they are all working together.
The short story of a man wandering across the Yukon Territory in midwinter creates a multitude of feelings in the reader. However, no feeling is stronger than the suspense about the survival of the main character. The man sets out alone to cross the Yukon Territory alone, despite warnings about the dangers of doing so. These dangers as told to us through through the eyes of a narrator develop the anticipation that keeps the story entertaining. Jack London’s effective use of basic literary techniques such as narration and conflict in the short story “To Build a Fire” is successful in keeping the reader involved throughout the story.
Eleven year old Jack London dreamed of sailing on the open seas but the way his life took him is a whole different story. When jack was seventeen he joined a seal hunting expedition. When he returned home he wrote about his experience of piloting his ship through a typhoon. Jacks mom persuaded him to enter a writing contest, he won this opened up a whole new chapter in his life, writing. Jack tried to write in a way that tried the reader feel more immersed into the writing.
London's disappointment in mankind's loss of instinctual judgment is clear throughout the story with the use of characters and theme. London’s story teaches readers to think outside the box, to look beyond what is already there and take things out of the woodwork. This story can be compared to real life. For example, if one does not think before they act and doesn’t analyze the situation before getting into it, people will take advantage and not walk over that person. Just as in the story, the unwise man did not analyze the situation that he was getting himself into, therefore mother nature stepped all over him leaving him dead.
Jack Griffith “Jack” London was an American novelist, journalist, and social activist who wrote about realism and naturalism. Jack was part of the radical literacy group called “The Crowd” which was located in San Francisco. Jack was a passionate advocate of unionization, socialism, and the rights of workers. Jack’s early family life was very hectic as a lot of problems occurred with his parents.
A Man on Ice The kids in an Alaskan school got up one morning and glimpsed out the window. They saw the most amazing sight that a person in school. it was snowing and the roads were covered, school would be canceled! George began to text all his friends, planning to get together and go ice fishing.
