James Baldwin was a black activists who was part of a movement which was called the Civil Rights Movement. While he was in the movement he didn’t particularly protest with violence like others would have but wrote how he felt and his experiences into essays which would later be formed into books. James Baldwin was born on August 2nd, 1924 but passed away in December 1st,1987.What James Baldwin had fought for was what he had believed in and also equality, spirituality and humanity. The way he had expressed the way he felt and his experiences was how he fought during the Civil Rights Movement. Well James Baldwin contribution was that he became one of the leading voices in the Civil Rights Movement. By this he gained a lot of hatred and put what he was seeing and experiencing into many of his books. According to a mini autobiography it states ”He was the voice that who was calling Americans attention to the prejudice and racism that persisted in society” By him being brave enough and write down his past and current experiences into a book and be published, which would make him calling out to Americans to fight of racism in society. Another contribution James Baldwin had to the Civil Rights Movement was that his writings had many black Americans experiences and how they were feeling at the time and also what they are going through. This also had helped him become one of the leading voices of the Civil Rights Movement. According to Wikipedia it states ]”The book was eagerly consumed by whites looking for answers to the question: What do blacks really want? Baldwin's essays never stopped articulating the anger and frustration felt by real-life black Americans with more clarity and style than any other writer of his generation. Well James Baldwin is important is because he was one of the black activists that didn’t use any violence to fight in what he believed for like Martin Luther King Jr. but also have a part of the mind set of Malcolm X. He also follows these leaders of the Civil Rights Movement and they are also the people who inspired him alongside other people. “Baldwin acknowledged the rage that was in the black populous of America just as Malcolm X did. Baldwin, particularly later in his life, had less and less hope for the future of America. The assassinations of Malcolm X and Martin Luther King caused Baldwin to lose some of the hope that he had earlier had. Anger and despair were major themes in his later writings, though he never abandoned the themes of love and hope ”(Robert Pfeffer, 1998). This indicates that after the assassination of the main leaders and his main inspirations which lead his work of writing to change in some little way. So which means he is starting to lose hope but will still believe there's could be a change in society.Another reason why he has significance is because how he was one of the leading voices in the Civil Rights Movement. How he becomes one of them is how he important by giving a viewpoint of a Black American and what they are going through.This concludes that James Baldwin has a couple reasons why he has significance to him on what he has done during the time of the Civil Rights Movement
