The Millions of people who play basketball now, owe a big thanks to one great man named Dr. James Naismith, the great Canadian and his passion for sports made him the father of basketball and through this, he created hope for many young athletes, he created a sport that people love, and the creation of his sport led to many charitable foundations.
Born on November 6, 1861, James Naismith was a Canadian and American sports coach and innovator. He is also credited with designing the first football helmet, He confined the first basketball rulebook, and established the basketball program at the University of Kansas. Naismith has been given numerous subsequent honors for his contributions to the world of sports. NBA players went to Haiti to help clean up the disasters, they torn down houses, and help rebuild homes for people in need. James states “I am sure that no man can derive more pleasure from money or power than I do from seeing a pair of basketball goals in some out of the way place,” (Rains Rob) from this quote, many NBA players go around the world and install basketball nets for people that cannot afford the proper equipment to play basketball.
