How Did Jesse Owens Changed American Society

The movie entitled Race directed by Stephen Hopkins , is an extravagant story about an African-American by the name of Jesse Owens and his journey through hardships and trials in order to becoming a successful Olympic athlete. The story began in the 1930s: Jesse, being the first in his family to go to college, attended Ohio State University. He competed in track and field and shortly after became a sensation. His coach Larry Snyder, presently realizes Owen’s potential to compete in the Olympics. Being enacted in a time of racism and anti-Semitism, Owens struggles with obligations as well as dealing with the persistent racism he had to deal with during his everyday life. Meanwhile, the 1936 Olympic games take place in Berlin Germany; Where he faces off against Adolf Hitler’s vision of Aryan supremacy. The NAACP wanted Owens to pull out of the Olympics because of his race, also the question if America should resign from competing that year was being contemplated

It took a lot of effort and extra hard work for Jesse to achieve that level of greatness he did because of the color of his skin color. However, achieving his goals were necessary to the American society because they needed to advance in racial education in order to advance the rights of African-Americans. By Owens achievement of his goal, it demonstrated that the color of his skin is not a disadvantage and he can do anything a white person could do. However, Jesse was not granted the respect and appreciation he deserved right away. I think this is because the American society was so used to seeing Blacks as inferior that it would take time to open people’s minds and change them. Lots of events needed to take place in order to encourage the Civil Rights movement. Every small action counted and Jesse’s big success in the Olympic games, even played a role in contribution to in the Civil Rights
