Jimmie Rodgers recorded a series of thirteen songs on the album Blue Yodel from the time period 1927 up until his death in May of 1933. Most of these songs were based on the 12-bar blues format. The lyrics had a slightly dangerous undertone and contained risqué quality. Rodgers also used the term “blue yodel” to differentiate between the times of the earlier Austrian yodeling from the American form of yodeling he introduced later on. Rodgers’ songs from Blue Yodel have a mimicking mournful train whistle sound to them. Rodgers’ described his own yodeling sounds as noises he can make with his own throat.
