“I would rather die than do something which I know to be a sin, or to be against God’s will.” These are the word of a girl who was brave enough to conquer the English army to win France back. Joan of Arc started her life just as a peasant. She was born in 1412 in Doméry-la-Pucelle, France, and she died on 30 May 1431 in Rouen, France. At 14 years old, she asked the king for an army, equipment and a horse (“Joan of Arc”). With the king support, she became the leader of two battles, the Hundred Years War and the Battle of Orléans in 1337-1453. Joan of Arc started her life as a peasant and her father, Jacques d’Arc, was a tenant farmer. He worked the land of a lord, so he was not the owner of the land (“Joan of Arc”). Joan of Arc had no education. She had a little bit of knowledge because her mother taught her about Catholic Church but not how to read or write (“Joan of Arc”). In the Medieval Times, only the son of the king could get a proper education. As a young girl, Joan of Arc could hear God saying that the French needed help because they were under the English power. The English king, Henry V, wanted to conquer the French land. Henri the V was in alliance with Philip the Good, the Duke of Burgundy, a region in France (“Saint Joan of Arc”). Joan of Arc dressed up as a man, so she could fight because at the time women were not allowed to fight. She asked for an army, because she heard God and she wanted to be more than just a peasant. The king was shocked by her request, because at the time women could only get married or become a nun. After she went to the king to get an army to conquer France back. The king thought it was a joke so he put her in a cell. After a year the king realised that the French needed help so he send Joan of Arc to fight for France, and gave her soldiers and equipment so she could fight (“Joan of dressing as a man”) & (“Joan of Arc biography”). She was a Catholic woman (“Joan of Arc”). After Joan of Arc captured France back she was burned at the stake. In may 1430 during a small battle against the Burguardiens. Joan of Arc was captured, she was a valuable prize. Then the Burguardiens gave Joan of Arc to the English. She continued to say that the voice she had heard all her life were divine in nature. Her last word before she died were “Jesus!” (“Joan of dressing as a man”). The king considered Joan of Arc has a witch. The king thought Joan of Arc was getting all the power and everybody was supportive with her ideas, so the king had no more peasants supporting his ideas. The king had to find a reason how to kill her. So he said that it was a crime to dress up as a man when your a women (“Saint Joan of Arc”). Also the church thought Joan of Arc was a witch. Firstly the church were positive about Joan of Arc because she was talking about God. But after the Pope who were the only ones that could hear God, and at the time the peasants were asking Joan of Arc about news from God (“Saint Joan of Arc”).
