John Paul Jones had a huge effect on the outcome of the American Revolution. His naval command helped win the war at sea. John Paul Jones was and always will be a hero to the United States. His brave acts were a big part of why he became the Father of the American Navy. One of his quotes that showed what kind of leader he was, “An honorable Peace is and always was my first wish! I can take no delight in the effusion of human blood; but, if this war should continue i wish to have the most active part.” John Paul was born on July 6, 1747 in Kirkcudbright,Scotland. Young John was the son of a gardener and at the age of 13, he went to sea. He served aboard a merchant ship and move through the ranks. While moving through the mercent ranks, John sailed on trading vessels and slavers. In the year 1766, he was made First Mate of the slaver “Two Friends”. Jones soon became disgusted with it and deported the vessel two years later. In 1768, Jones traveled to Fredericksburg,VA in hope to obtain aid from his brother.
