King Menes united Upper and Lower Egypt into one monarchy. The uniting of Egypt began one of the most stable civilizations in history. King Menes’ decision affected the lives of many people.
Menes was an Ancient Egyptian pharaoh of the early dynastic period. He was born in 3201 B.C. and died in 3101 B.C. (www.google.com). During this time Menes, also known as King Menes, ruled Egypt. His reign over Egypt lasted for 62 years. King Menes was known for uniting Upper and Lower Egypt into one monarchy. He united the lands in around 3000 B.C., but there are no exact dates since the ancient form of writing called hieroglyphics has not been fully established (mummies2pyramids.info). This is the part Menes played in Egypt. While he was ruling, he wore a crown that was Upper and Lower Egypt’s crowns combined. The crown was called the Pschent. Also, while he was ruling, he introduced the idea of elegant, sumptuous living to all Egypt (www.kingtut.com). King Menes also introduced the worship of gods and the practice of sacrifice. This affected many people and how they lived.

With the first dynasty, the capital moved from Thinis to Memphis with a unified Egypt, ruled by King Menes. Menes was the one who founded the new capital. King Menes intentionally built the city of Memphis in the middle of the two kingdoms to unite the inhabitants of the formerly separated nations and so that it would be more secure from enemies and invaders. Harmony and cooperation between the two kingdoms, their stable and secured city, and their abundant agriculture made Memphis flourish. Upper and Lower Egypt were combined into one kingdom by Menes. This benefited many of the smaller areas to become a part of one larger kingdom with more power and wealth.
