In chapter 1 of Discovering Our Past: The American Journey, by Glencoe, the main idea is exploration and its impact on the Americas. Clearly, exploration made a huge impact on the world by discovering new places, finding new routes, and riches. Portugal and Spain unleashed a new era of exploration by searching for sea routes to Asia by ship, Portugal mainly started the “Age of Exploration” because a sailor named Bartholomeu Dias reached the southern tip of Africa which was new land to them and a little while after, Vasco da Gama found the “long awaited” Sea route to Asia which inspired other people to sail as well. Other people had different goals while exploring the sea, like Ferdinand Magellan who was the leader of the first crew to sail around the world.
The exploration and colonization practices of the Portuguese and Spanish had many similarities and differences to their British counterparts. Exploration and colonization where a very important aspect of any country during this time period (1450-1750), as colonies across the world led to greater profits and more control. The Portuguese and Spanish has very specific exploration and colonization practices. King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella highly supported exploration (by supporting Columbus’s exploration and establishing empires in the New World).

Leonardo da Vinci was influenced by 3 people. Their names were Lorenzo de’Medici, John Argyropoulos and Andrea del Verrocchio. Lorenzo de’Medici was a powerful patron and payed Da Vinci for art work. John Argyropoulos is a humanists and taught Da Vinci.

Martin Luther was a German monk and a priest, which started the Renaissance by writing his 95th theses. Martin Luther ’s 95th theses were a list of his beliefs. The Renaissance occurred mainly in the northern Italy in Urban areas. The Greeks and the Romans where the main two groups that influenced the Renaissance humanists the most. There was a book written which took place as a political handbook on how rules can gain power and how they can keep power.
During the 15th and 16th centuries, leaders of a few European nations sent expeditions out in the hope that explorers would find great wealth and vast undiscovered lands. The Portuguese were the earliest participants in this “Age of Discovery.” Starting in about 1420, Portuguese ships sailed the African coast, carrying spices, gold, slaves and other goods from Africa and Asia to Europe.
The Great Artists of the Renaissance The Renaissance was an era of great masterpieces and ingenuity from the minds of the greatest artists in the history of humankind. Renaissance literally means "rebirth", which is fitting because this time period was the revival period for learning and values of the Ancients. This time period was thought by scholars to be a time of revival and upbringing from the dark times of the Middle Ages in which learning was lost.
“Simplicity is the Ultimate Sophistication” Leonardo Da Vinci was known for this quote and countless other things. Born on April 15th, 1452 in Vinci, Italy, his beliefs inspired and influenced the Catholic Church in many ways. Out of all of his paintings, he was most commonly known for the Mona Lisa and the Last supper. His paintings have affected countless artists. He is one of the most common artists of the Italian renaissance.
Leonardo da Vinci was not only a painter but also an architect, and inventor. Due to this he was known as The Renaissance Man (Bio.com Staff). Leonardo’s paintings have had a lasting impact on the Renaissance era. His most known pieces of work are The Last Supper and Mona Lisa.
They wanted to conquer new lands, in order to tighten there grasp on the world. They also wanted to establish colonies in the Americas. So that they could obtain more luxurious with ease. Because of these reason both Portugal, and Spain became two of the greatest world powers of the sixteenth century. All four of these motive are equally important.
The Renaissance is a period in Europe from the 14th to 17th century. It was considered the time between the Middle Ages and modern history. It all started as a cultural movement in Italy in the late Medieval period and later spread to the rest of Europe, which started the beginning of the Early Modern Age. There are many highly interesting periods of history but the level of artistic and architectural production during this time is amazing. So much that centuries later they continue to capture the public 's imagination.
They were actually located in a pretty strategic area, as they were the closest of all exploring nations, if only considering routes by sea, to the areas yet to be colonized. They used the seas to their advantage and grew very dependent on them. They took the lead in exploration by setting off to find the first “all water” route to Asia. Henry the Navigator, the prince of Portugal, became the patron of exploration in Portugal. He set up navigation schools for sailors that wanted to partake in the exploration of the world, and actually earned his title as Prince Henry the Navigator, not because he went on voyages, but because of the fact that his navigation school was so
Michelangelo had a gigantic influence on the renaissance. He was a master at both painting and sculpting, he also was an architect, engineer, and poet. During his day he was unbeatable in his painting and sculpting skills. He had many artist study under him and help him with painting the Sistine Chapel in Vatican, but none were on par with him.
William Shakespeare William Shakespeare was an actor, poet, and playwright, but he did so much more than that. He changed psychology, the english language, theater, writing, and created thousands of words we still use today. William Shakespeare wrote and acted in his plays during the Renaissance, which was a time from the 1300s until the 1600s when ideas of society changed. During the Renaissance, a new concept started to form that changed society which was humanism.
