Mary Jackson: The Human Computer Mary Winston Jackson was born April 9,1921 in Hampton, Virgina. Her parents were Ella and Frank Winston. Mary spent most of her life in Hampton. Mary went to high school at Geroge P. Phenix. Mary Jackson later became famous for being an African American mathematician and an aerospace engineer at the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics. However, the NACA later became the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Mary Jackson went to college at Hampton Institute, but it is now called Hampton University. At Hampton Institute she earned her Bachelor's degrees in mathematics and political science. She graduated in 1942 from Hampton Institute. The Research Center is in her hometown of Hampton, Virgina. She moved to Compressibility Research Division in 1953. After 5 years of being at NASA and taking special classes she joined a special training program and was promoted to aerospace engineer. Mary processed data from wind tunnel experiments and real-world aircrafts experiments at Theoretical Aerodynamics Branch of the Subsonic-Transonic Aerodynamics Division at Langley. Her hard work shows that anything can be done. Mary was a girl scout leader so that means she had direct contact to the upcoming youth. Mary's work ethic not only influence the youth that she worked with it also affected her very own kids and people in her neighborhood. Mary's big heart was felt by anyone and everyone she was around or encountered Mary caring for other is a trait that was pass down to her children. Mary Jackson's compassion for other and the dedication she had to her work will forever be remembered. Mary's influence on others will always be remembered. Mary's work at NASA will down in the history books for being one of the greatest ever to do it. Mary's legacy was cared on by her children. If I was alive in Mary's time I would to be mentor by her and learn from her. Mary personality is also one of her better traits and she would have a lot to teach.
