Melba Pattillo Beals was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on Pearl Harbor Day December 7, 1941. Her parents were divorced when she was seven and separated after she was recommended for going to Central High to be integrated with the whites. Because of the media exposure Melba received when she was integrating schools she decided to pursue a career in journalism. At age seventeen, Melba began selling articles to major newspapers and magazines and later received a master's degree in journalism from columbia university. She worked as a news reporter from San Francisco's public television station, KQED, NBC affiliate, and the KRON TV. She gave African Americans more freedom to have more of a choice on what to do in life. She showed us that it took bravery to go somewhere in life and to not be a follower, but a leader. She showed us that an education is worth going to school everyday no matter the hardships faced in order to get an education. She made a huge impact in our society then and is still surprising us today. Melba Pattillo Beals made this world a better place by making bi-racial schooling a thing. She made it possible for African Americans to have important careers in life. She played a big role in allowing African Americans to get the education needed for us to be successful in life. She also helped us truly understand what life was like for her and her peers in the Warriors Don't Cry novel that she wrote. Without her becoming a leader we wouldn't be where we are today as human beings today. Melba had a rough life in her infant and child days living with her parents divorced. She managed to find the good in every situation even when her life was put at stake. She paved a way for African Americans to be treated equally. She made it possible for Africans Americans to get the education available for getting the correct jobs for success.
