How Did Michael Morton Achieve Justice

¨In matters of truth or justice, there is no difference between large and small problems, for issues concerning the treatment of people are all the same¨-Albert Einstein. The justice system, however, is imbibed with many problems. We can, however, try to lessen these problems with achieving justice as we identified some faults of in achieving justice of all and the justice system. One problem with achieving justice is people are sometimes guilty until proven innocent like when Charlie was immediately thought of as guilty without a chance to prove his innocence. Another problem imbibed in our justice system is innocent people as sometimes convicted like Michael Morton. He was convicted with a lack of evidence and withholding evidence. In some

A famous example of this from our area is the Michael Morton case. Michael Morton spent 25 years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit. Evidence was present that he didn’t do it. For instance,” His three year old son, who witnessed the murder, even told the police,’ Daddy didn’t do it.’ But that statement…didn’t come out until years later.” Morton was wrongly accused for murdering his wife. The reports and the son even said that Morton did’t do it. In fact, Morton wasn't even present at the house at the time of the murder. However, this evidence was withheld by prosecutor Ken Anderson. Morton spent 25 years of his life in jail because this evidence was withheld. People are wrongly accused for crimes for many different reasons. Ken Anderson was wrongly accused Morton because he could win the case. It was very scandalous to keep someone on a life sentence just to win a case. Morton was freed because DNA evidence on a bandana freed Morton. New laws came from this case. Now, prosecutors must present all evidence. This case teaches us the justice system is composed of people. People are filled with desire. This case teaches us that human nature and desire contaminate justice. However there are other reasons why innocent people sometimes get convicted.
