END OF THE COLD WAR 5 toll on the USSR in the mid 80s, where they should of spent money on social issues, they were being spent on military supplies. Mikhail Gorbachev was very important to the end of the cold war. Mikhail Gorbachev made many deals with the anti communist world and helped end the cold war. Gorbachev was born March 2, 1931 and is still alive today. He was the first Soviet leader to accept non communistic beliefs.
MIkhail Gorbachev was awarded the person of the year award in 1987 and received the
“person of the decade” award a few years later for his actions in easing tension between the East and the West.
Many Bad things happened when people spoke out against communism and capitalism.
After the United States armed and supported the El Salvadoran government, they sent out patrols, killing communist supporters and militants alike. In China’s Tiananmen Square, tanks and ground troops were in to clear the anti communist demonstrators, killing hundreds of protesters while the world's media watched. The Tiananmen square massacre was met with public outrage and showed that force wouldn’t be tolerated to subdue protesters. What was once a prosperous and powerful nation, The USSR dissolved into many smaller countries. Gorbachev’s Changes and a bad economy led to many uprisings in the final days of the Soviet Union The USSR split into 15 different republics after the Cold War. Many of the new countries were wore and in desperate need of a good economic system. Post Cold War Russia, or the countries that once made up the USSR were changed drastically. Many of the new Countries were not prosperous again until the 2000s. The United states became the world's only superpower. Many countries of the former Soviet Union became free market and democratic. Despite Economic hardship, the former USSR is much better off
