On May 19, 1964, the Oscar Peterson Trio performed at the Holbk Jazzklub in Holbk, Denmark. Jazz in Denmark can be traced back to the 1920s, where musician Valdemar Eiberg performed with a jazz orchestra. Following this, its popularity began to increase, with various musicians such as Leo Mathisen and Svend Asmussen becoming major figures of the period. Nazi occupation during WWII led to jazz going underground until it began to emerge again following the war, with international jazz musicians now flying in to perform in various jazz clubs, one of them being the Oscar Peterson Trio. Brown helped to guide the Hollywood Bowl Association in creating jazz concerts, and was the director of various jazz festivals such as the Monterey Jazz Festival and the Concord Summer Festival. Ed Thigpen (also known as “Mr. Taste”), best known for his work in the Oscar Peterson Trio, was a jazz drummer who had many techniques when it came to playing his drums efficiently. Thigpen states, “I always played brushes with the snares turned off to get a more harmonic sound coming through the open snare drum.” He had a great passion, not just for making music, but for inspiring others to, releasing method books such as The Sound of Brushes and the Rhythm Analysis and Basic Coordination for Drums.
