There are numerous incidents where the animals behaves differently in the boat that they would in the Pondicherry zoo. One of these instances, is when the zebra was not killed by Richard Parker. Pi’s first assumption was, “My guess was that Richard Parker was on the floor of the lifeboat beneath the tarpaulin, his back to me, facing the zebra, which he had no doubt killed by now.”(Martel, Life Of Pi, 50), which then Pi states, “I was surprised to see that the zebra was still alive.”(Martel, Life Of Pi, 50). The reason why Richard Parker did not eat the zebra, was probably because of the fact that Richard Parker was in shock. Martel is trying to say that animal behavior differs from time to time, depending on their mood, and mental state,
