Have you ever been hunted or wondered what it would be like to be hunted, well Richard Connell the author of The Most Dangerous Game has exercised this idea into a short story. Rainsfords external conflict with zaroff, and his view on animals and how they change throughout the story, and being hunted by zaroff, then the change of his view on animals reveal that humans are more like animals than we realize. Throughout the story Rainsford’s understanding about how animals feel changes. Rainsford’s initial of view animals is that they do not feel anything and that they only know how to survive. “Who cares how a jaguar feels said Rainsford… I rather think they understand one thing--fear, the fear of pain and the fear of death declared Whitney… Bah! They've no understanding announced Rainsford" (Connell). Whitney feels sympathetic for jaguars and other animals while Rainsford dismisses that idea that animals feel. Since Rainsford has no feeling of sympathy towards animals he might be more violent and hunt them in different painful ways. …show more content…

Secondly, the general's secret is that Zaroff hunts humans and that's he’s going to hunt Rainsford since he does not agree to hunt with him. "Tonight, said the general, we will hunt--you and I...Rainsford shook his head. No, general, he said. I will not hunt. My dear fellow, said the general, have I not told you I always mean what say about hunting? This is really an inspiration. I drink to a foeman worthy of my steel--at last" (Connell). So since Rainsford refuses to hunt humans the general decides to hunt him. The general thinks it's a great idea because they’re both hunters and both very skilled, so the general thinks it's a great idea while Rainsford thinks it's a horrible idea. The general hunts Rainsford but Rainsford survives the general's secret and kills
