The most Dangerous Game In the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, Rainsford was on the a ship watching the sea and they hit a bump and he fell off. It was pitch black when Rainford fell off, then he started swimming he heard three gun three shots.
In his short story “The Most Dangerous Game,” author Richard Connell shows his mastery of the craft of storytelling by his skillful use of a number of literary elements in the creation of his tale. Connell makes excellent use of Plot and Setting by creating a great deal of suspense in the mood he sets. He also surprises readers with a stunning climax and intense falling action to close out his story. He next develops narrators in the story using Narrator and Voice. Connell uses a third person limited narrator to emphasize his mysterious tone in this story.
It's amazing how two people that have much in common can have totally different personalities. In Richard Connell's "The Most Dangerous Game", Rainsford, a skillful hunter, is to go through many struggles against General Zaroff, his opponent with which he shares many similarities, in order for him to win a hunting contest while proving himself to be the owner of an amazing, unbreakable personality. Through his actions during a game of hunt against a much overconfident hunter, Rainsford proves to have the traits of an honorable man. At the beginning of the story, Rainsford bravely arrives, after falling from a yacht, to the shore of an isolated island. The latter is called ‘Ship Trap’ since it is known to have a bad reputation.
He uses several different methods to cheat his way into the game he is playing with Rainsford; dogs, Ivan, a gun, and the isolated island itself. Connell sets up the dilemma from whether hunting is a brutal activity or an amusing sport. Deciding on one or the other depends a lot on how the reader feels about animals. Rainsford’s attitude suggests his willingness to commit violence without considering any of the moral implications. The reader quickly forgets about that position once they meet General Zaroff.

One of the hunters wash up on shore of the Island and is introduced to feeling of being hunted. The author uses this character to show sympathy and compassion towards hunted animals. As I’m reading through this story the author uses the character, Rainsford, to express the value of life.
“How can such civilized people turn into uncivilized people when live depends on it?” This was the question that was circling my mind while reading, The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell. “Outdoor chess! And the stake is not without value,” I choose this quote because, he saying that this gruesome game is equivalent to a low key game meant for all ages.
Then it was that Rainsford knew the full meaning of terror.” When the general saves him for another day’s sport, Rainsford, once again, acknowledges the fact that he is the hunted, a terrified mouse, and Zaroff is his hunter, a cat playing with his prey. Not only does Rainsford identify himself as prey many times, he also demonstrates an important part of the relationship between predator and prey: co-evolution. When Rainsford makes a “Malay mancatcher” trap, and it bruises Zaroff’s shoulder, the general retaliates by returning with his bloodthirsty hounds. Zaroff and Rainsford increase the intensity of the game together.
Richard Connell’s short story, “The Most Dangerous Game”, tells the story about the relationship between the hunter and the hunted reaching to extremes. The story starts out with two people on a ship, Whitney and Rainsford, talking about hunting. Whitney argues that hunted animals don’t want to be hunted, as they fear pain and death. Rainsford simply retorts that he does not care how the animals feel. While passing an island, the two feel a sudden chill.

A world renowned hunter named Rainsford is put to the test when he became the prey to a man named General Zaroff. As Rainsford runs and hides for his life, the general gleefully hunts him down. The general is obsessed with the thrill and challenges of the hunt, and resorts to hunting men to challenge himself even more when animals start to bore him. The greatest controlling characteristic of General Zaroff can only be his obsession of the hunt.
Throughout generations, people have been hunting for food and population control, but in “The Most Dangerous Game” Rainsford thinks that hunting is a sport until he becomes the hunted. In the story, Rainsford met General Zaroff on the island; Rainsford thought he was a nice guy until he started hunting humans. Rainsford didn’t agree with him and refused to hunt, and he wanted to leave immediately, but Zaroff was started to hunt him. Rainsford uses his skills and knowledge to survive against General Zaroff. In “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell suggests to, trust yourself or you won’t succeed.
The Manhunt In the “Most Dangerous Game” written by Richard Connell, Rainsford outsmarts Zaroff in the manhunt by hiding in trees, setting man traps to take people out, Jumping off a cliff into some water to run away from the bad guys, and also running through a rainforest to escape. One way he escaped and outsmarted Zaroff was using his prior hunting knowledge and experience. Using his prior hunting knowledge and experience he set up a Malay mancatcher which he learned from hunting in Malacca and tried to kill Zaroff. He also set up a Burmese tiger pit and caught one of Zaroff's hounds in it.
