In the short story, The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell, the author is commenting on war in a way in which people will change and be violent to protect themselves and others, even though they understand the pain of being hunted. Rainsford, a boy who washed up on the shore of the forbidden island, was hunted by General Zaroff, a general who got disinterested in hunting animals, so he created a new game in which hunted people instead. Unfortunately, Rainsford’s arrival provided General Zaroff with new prey. Rainsford understood what it was like to be hunted by General Zaroff, but in the end, he still hunted and killed Zaroff for his own, and others to later be trapped on the island’s survival. In war, soldiers attack one another to survive

Brandon Le Period 6 “The Interlopers” and “The Most Dangerous Game” are two short stories written by completely different authors, Saki and Richard Connell. Even though they were written by different authors, the characters in the stories have some things in common, but at the same time they also have their differences, as well as the plot. A similarity is both characters had deep hate for one another. In “The Interlopers”, Ulrich von Gradwitz hates Georg Znaeym because Georg is hunting on his land, but Georg hates Ulrich because he claims that the land is his.
The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell is a short story that depicts two hunters hoping to hunt in the Amazon that happen to come across a notorious island known as “Ship-trap” Island. One of the hunters wash up on shore of the Island and is introduced to feeling of being hunted. The author uses this character to show sympathy and compassion towards hunted animals. As I’m reading through this story the author uses the character, Rainsford, to express the value of life.
Jasper Swallen Mrs. Kearney Lit. Genre and Comp. 5 November 2014 TITLE Writer Elizabeth Gilbert said it best: “The problem, simply put, is that we cannot choose everything simultaneously. So we live in danger of becoming paralyzed by indecision, terrified that every choice might be the wrong choice” (Committed).
The Great Hunt Hunting good because it keeps control of the animal population. However in the story Zaroff uses hunting in a bad way. Rainsford was on a boat and then fell off the boat. Then he looked around the island for people on the island so he could get food and water but then he got caught up with in a hunting game then survived the hunting game.

Rainsford simply retorts that he does not care how the animals feel. While passing an island, the two feel a sudden chill.
Conflicts occur frequently in literature and life, but are they necessary? In my opinion, we do need to have conflicts so we could learn from them. An individual will surely change his/her perspective on how to see things and the way they approach it when they tried to put themselves on someone’s shoes. In this story “The Most Dangerous Game,” written by Richard Connell, the character Sanger Rainsford experienced to be hunted instead of his regular state of being a hunter. Throughout the story, he experienced how scary it was when his life is on the line. For example, what animals are experience when he’s hunting them. As the US Army saying “No Pain, No Gain”, the character of Sanger Rainsford needed to feel and experience the pain of terror and fear in order for him to conquer this game of man vs. man.
Then it was that Rainsford knew the full meaning of terror.” When the general saves him for another day’s sport, Rainsford, once again, acknowledges the fact that he is the hunted, a terrified mouse, and Zaroff is his hunter, a cat playing with his prey. Not only does Rainsford identify himself as prey many times, he also demonstrates an important part of the relationship between predator and prey: co-evolution. When Rainsford makes a “Malay mancatcher” trap, and it bruises Zaroff’s shoulder, the general retaliates by returning with his bloodthirsty hounds. Zaroff and Rainsford increase the intensity of the game together.
In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game,” Richard Connell uses irony to show the theme of the hunter becoming the hunted . Sanger Rainsford is a big game hunter from New York City who believes that animals deserve no remorse when being hunted. When discussing whether it is right to hunt jaguars, Rainsford says, “The world is made up of two classes- the hunters and the huntees” (Connell 1). Rainsford shows little mercy for the lives of hunted animals and doesn’t care to think what it is like to be hunted. Later in the story, Rainsford meets General Zaroff and they are discussing their favorite game to hunt.
Obsessions of the Hunt Hunting has always been a part of humanity, but in the short story “The Most Dangerous Game,” by Richard Connell, one man takes the hunt too far. A world renowned hunter named Rainsford is put to the test when he became the prey to a man named General Zaroff. As Rainsford runs and hides for his life, the general gleefully hunts him down. The general is obsessed with the thrill and challenges of the hunt, and resorts to hunting men to challenge himself even more when animals start to bore him. The greatest controlling characteristic of General Zaroff can only be his obsession of the hunt.
