By the year 1995 he was smoking heroin and doing cocaine which led him to many arrests and he even had to go to a rehab facility. In the summer of 1996 he got arrested multiple times for reckless drug behavior. One time the police had stopped him for speeding but not only did they find him intoxicated but he also had cocaine and heroin on him. Later he was picked up again by the police when he wandered into his neighbor's house and passed out in their son's bedroom and this was just the beginning of his spiral. For the next few years Downey had been in and out of rehab. In 1999 Downey was sentenced to 36 months in state prison and then he also spent another 12 months there serving time before being paroled. After that he was arrested two more times within eight months. He was then sent to rehab for six months, This was the time Robert Downey jr called “rock bottom” Where he reached his lowest point in life of addiction and loss of everything.
