During the time of Ancient Rome, mythology was an important aspect of a Romans daily life. Throughout their lives, they worshipped hundreds of different Gods and Goddess through traditional stories that they shared with each other. These stories represented origins and deeper meanings behind the basic storyline. Today, people still study the literature to understand the concept of a myth. Romans may have adopted the same Greeks Gods but they also worshipped local Gods that are not associated with the Greeks. Roman mythology impacted their beliefs about the world, what they did for their Gods, and how they lived their daily lives. The best way they did that was through sacrifices. At temples, priests would sacrifice animals and offer them to the Gods. In addition, they also set up shrines at home where they worshipped and performed their own animal sacrifices. The Romans worshipped the gods and goddesses in temples where they made sacrifices of not only animals but also precious things. They believed that blood sacrifices were the best way to communicate with the gods. They conducted sacrifices to the gods to favor them in executing their requests, a worshipper might make offerings of food or wine, or would carry out a ritual sacrifice of an animal before eating it. The types of sacrifices were very specific to make the Gods happy. The sex of the animal had to correspond to the sex of the god or goddess that was being offered in sacrifice. White animals were sacrificed to the gods of heaven while black animals to the underworld. Different ceremonies celebrated a different God or Goddess.
