Geographical Setting: What continent? What Landforms? What important Places?

The Aztecs had were very fortunate in Mexico. Once they moved there in around 1200 AD, they noticed the lands were swampy, mountainous, and there wasn’t lots of natural resources. The lived in the South Valley of Mexico. Since there was little farmland, they were smart and invented chinampas. With those, they were able to grow many crops.

So, to keep them alive, the emperor demanded sacrificial victims. They tore out their organs and let them roll down the hall of the temple. If they did not do this, they believed the gods would die and the sun would go away and stop coming up. The gods they prayed to the most were the agricultural gods. They had and believed in over 1000 gods. As you can see, religion dominated Aztec society.
Aesthetics (Art, literature, music, dance, leisure activities, legacies to world culture)

The Aztec boys were taught religion when they were younger. The Aztecs had unique architecture. For example, they had huge unique temples. They did have a writing system where they used glyphs. They also had two calendars. One for farming which they used to show when and what crops should be planted. The other calendar is the religious one which told them what religious holidays were upcoming.

Since it was very mountainous, they invented chinampas, which were islands meant for farming. With chinampas, they were able to grow corn, squash, tomatoes, peppers, and squash. They also may have hunted and fished in nearby areas.

There were 3 classes for the Aztecs. The nobles were on top. They were landowners and priests. They were also the most powerful. They ran the government and army. Second, were the Artisans and merchants. They made up intermediate ideas. Finally were the commoners. They are farmers, craftsmen, soldiers, and serfs. All the classes limited women’s rights, unfortunately.
