Italy had a rough roller coaster ride from starting as a group of Nomads and travelers to becoming the largest empire in Western Europe. Italy’s origin comes from the Roman Empire who at the height of its peak was unable to control the entire empire from the Capital. The Roman Empire has multiple different religions that have come and go, the main religion in Italy is Roman Catholic. Italian politics constantly changed until the World War II Era with the execution of Mussolini. Italy is a peninsula shaped like a boot in the Mediterranean Sea, littered with large mountains and hills such as the Alps mountain range. The main religion amongst everyone in Italy is Roman Catholic. The beginning of the Roman Catholic religion dates all the way back to the early years of 300 AD. As early as 380 AD, the Roman Empire declared the Catholic Church to be the official religion of the Empire. For the first thousand years of Christianity no other established denominations existed, only "the one, holy, Catholic Church” (Fairchild, 2014). The Roman Empire had divided the population into social statuses based on wealth and superiority. The first classes were the slaves, they were property and did not have a say in anything. The second class was the Plebeians, they are free but were not very important and did not have much say so in matters. The next class was the Equestrians also known as a Knight, the name means Riders for they would use horses to fight for Rome. The current government standing today is a Republic, similar to the United States Government with the same branches Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. The Italian Government had a Prime Minister along with a President. This was not the first time the Italy was under a Republic, The early Roman’s created a Republic and it worked successfully for a long time. The Roman Republic was a very successful government. It lasted from 510 BC until 23 BC - almost 500 years. In comparison, the United States of America only exist since 1776 - less than 250 years (A Brief History of Rome, 2016). The president of Italy does not have any executive powers, which is the biggest difference between the United States and Italy. He ensures laws follow the constitution, he appoints the Prime Minister, and he has the capacity to terminate the Congress if he feels there is not enough political cohesion to form a new government (Glauco, 2012). The biggest difference noted is that the common public does not vote on the President, or the Prime Minister. Voting for Parliament, which is Congress, is the only thing the Public is allowed to do. The President of the Republic, who is elected by the Parliament itself every seven years, consults delegations from each party and, according to the majority of the consensus, appoints the President of the Counsel (Prime Minister)
