Bad decisions that led to the Tragic Romeo and Juliet ending All human beings on Earth have made a bad decision at least once in their life that has impacted them, big or small. An example of this is in William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is a play about two star-crossed lovers whose families’ feud ends up causing a tragic ending for the city of Verona. While the family feud may have been a factor in the various deaths, one can argue that there are also characters whose tragic flaws cost them. There are many characters in Romeo and Juliet whose character traits and bad decisions lead to their downfall, some being Romeo, Lord Capulet, and Friar Lawrence.

Agreeing to marry Romeo and Juliet, Friar Lawrence says, “In one respect I’ll thy assistant be,/For this alliance may so happy prove/ To turn your households’ rancor to pure love” (Shakespeare 2.3.90-92). This demonstrates the Friar agreeing to marry Romeo and Juliet. He believes that if they get married, the family feud will come to an end. However, that would not have been the case. If their families had found out, it would have made them angrier. He thought marrying them was for a good cause, but it does not seem like the decision he should have made. While speaking to Juliet, The Friar concludes, “Take thou this vial, being then in bed,/And this distilled liquor drink thou off,/ When presently through all thy veins shall run/A cold and drowsy humor, for no pulse” (Shakespeare 4.1.94-97). This highlights what Friar Lawrence tells Juliet to do when she asks him for help. Juliet goes to the Friar, threatening to kill herself if he doesn’t help her figure out what to do about marrying Paris. He comes up with a plan and instructs Juliet to fake her death. This was not the most effective plan, however, because it failed miserably. Romeo got word that Juliet was dead, and rushed to Verona. Upon seeing her dead, he realizes he cannot live without her and swallows poison. Juliet wakes up to see Romeo dead, takes his dagger, and stabs herself in the chest.
