Macbeth: Writing Assignment #1 1. Comic relief is the use of humour after a serious situation, in order to ease the tension or lighten up the mood. Literally, it uses comical elements to provide the audience with relief after intense moments in literary or dramatic work (i.e. Macbeth). In the case of the play Macbeth, the use of comical relief is evident after the powerful moments before and after the death of King Duncan. This comical relief comes in the form of a cranky and drunken porter.
Romeo and Juliet is still considered one of the most prominent plays to ever be written. Romeo and Juliet was a famous play created by William Shakespeare in 1596. It was a play portraying the theme of young love and the chaos and passion of being in love. William Shakespeare originally created the play for an audience of everyone, and with the play becoming continuously popular for centuries, it has now been replenished in many different versions through the years. Often, classic literature, including Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, is used as a basis for others to create their own interpretations, keeping some things and changing others.
Romeo and Juliet has a lot of situational irony for example it took suicide to make peace. There was violence which lead to the death of the star-crossed lovers after Romeo commited suicide because he couldn't live without Juliet, but didn't know Juliet
Romeo and Juliet is one of, if not the most well-known of Shakespeare’s plays. Part of this is because it is an accessible love story that feels like it can take place wherever and whenever. Relative themes include the power of love, rebellion, women’s role in society, and fate vs. choice. He also uses his writing to conjure different emotions, such as despair, frustration, helplessness, or humor. Specifically, Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare uses dramatic irony to invoke a feeling of sadness.
A major example of dramatic irony is when Romeo and Juliet get married in secret with only the Friar, the Nurse, and the couple knowing. This leads to multiple conflicts between the two families. For example, when they had just got married, Tybalt, Juliet’s

People often read Romeo and Juliet as just a romantic play, but to be more accurate this play is a real romantic tragedy.
Shakespeare is very well known for making very good plays. One of the things that makes his plays so good is how unique his characters are. One play that has a good example of this is “Romeo and Juliet”. Romeo and Juliet is a story about two lovers who are on opposite sides of a family feud. Even though the families are fighting, Romeo and Juliet still love each other and want to marry each other.
Shakespeare’s Use of Dramatic Irony In William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare uses dramatic irony to effectively captivate the audience. For example, when Romeo and Juliet meet for the first time, Juliet exclaims to the Nurse, “My Grave is like to be my wedding bed” (Rom. 1.5.148). Romeo and Juliet do not know their families are enemies when they first meet but the audience knows from the start.
In the play A Midsummer Night’s Dream, William Shakespeare uses the characters to show comedy. A few characters like Bottom, Lysander, and Demetrius get the audience to laugh by using comedic insults. Comedic insults are insults that one character says to, or about another character. The audience finds the insults funny because it can be related to dramatic irony, comedic relief, or it is a basic hilarious joke. It is generally used to engage the audience and lighten the mood.
Dramatic irony, a situation in which the audience of a play knows something that the character does not know. It is noticed that most drama plays involve some sort of irony. For instance, in the story of “Romeo and Juliet”, Romeo thinks Juliet is dead, but the audience knows that she is still alive. Furthermore, in Shakespeare, it is observed that he uses different literary devices throughout his play. For example, the use of metaphors, hyperboles and so on.
Shakespeare was a famous playwright who wrote plays such as Hamlet, The Tempest, and Romeo and Juliet, all of which involve tragedies. In the play Romeo and Juliet, the tragedy forms as the two main characters fall in love with each other. Yet, their relationship is not that straightforward, as Romeo and Juliet cannot see each other or be together. Their separation emerges from the feud between the Montagues and the Capulets. In addition to the conflict between the Montagues and the Capulets, conflicts exist within each of the families.

The Renaissance was a period of beautiful, enlightening artistic and scientific excavation. In the Renaissance, Marlowe introduced comic relief. He did that through his presentation of crude scenes in Dr. Faustus. The comic relief then came in the form of an interlude between two tragic sections. Of all the readings covered in class, this intersection of comedy and tragedy was striking, due to its paradoxical nature.

Shakespeare set the bar for other English author’s of his time and is still one of America’s most renowned authors. Romeo and Juliet is a unique story because of the detail and author characteristics found in the story. Shakespeare shows a vast number of themes, fate and free will/ choices throughout his work and that is what sets him apart from others.
William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is widely known as a horrible tragedy about two teen lovers whose death bring their feuding families together. While there may be a dramatic ending to the play, it starts off as a funny and delightful comedy. To divert the audience’s attention from the cruel reality of the play, Shakespeare focuses on the parts that make it entertaining for the audience. If humor was not added, Romeo and Juliet would have been a very tiresome romance about love and death.
