After the conclusion of the Leach trial and the beginning of the long appeals process that followed, Bundy initiated a series of interviews with Stephen Michaud and Hugh Aynesworth. During the conversations with Stephen, Bundy elaborated on his career as a thief. The act of taking what did not belong to him, drove him to pursue the thrill even more. The thrill of theft led Bundy upon an important journey; rape and murder. According to Michaud (2000), sexual assault fulfilled Bundy’s need to totally possess his victims. Michaud (2000), goes to state that, Bundy first killed women as a matter of expediency, where he wanted to eliminate the possibility of getting caught. So how did crime get solved without the modern use of technology? According to Fisher (2000), investigations were much more difficult and time consuming, and technology that was available at time did little to help. For example, investigators used Polaroid pictures to get crime scene shots. A few years later, as technology advanced, investigators started collecting evidence with camcorders, which were much lighter and recorded in color, but still very large. Another setback in the 80s, was the unavailability of a truly portable alternative light sources to detect bodily fluids and some fibers that are not visible to the naked eye. While Investigators did have lasers, each laser was so large that you needed a vehicle to transport it to the scene, making it impractical for use. Most lasers were kept in the crime labs. According to Fisher (2000), besides being very large and heavy, they required 110V and were very expensive, ranging in price from about $20,000 to $25,000. Although the price eventually dropped, the units still had so many limitations that most crime scene investigators did not rely on them in the field.
