The American and French Revolutions were large events in the world's history. They influenced each other and impacted history for centuries to come. The Enlightenment effected the Revolutions, and they effected each other in a domino affect. The peak of big revolutions has altered the course of Europe and the rest of the world heavily. The American Revolution was brought on by Enlightenment values created by John Locke, Rousseau, Francis Bacon, Voltaire, and Descartes. The values conflicted religious values in France and Europe as a whole. The American colonies adopted the values, which they used for the basis of their soon to be newly formed nation. The French also used these same values after the Storming of the Bastille. They took the idea of Democracy and the word of the common people over that of only the country's nobles and the clergy. The American Revolution effected the French Revolution by showing that such a task as throwing over a monarch isn't entirely impossible. They also acted as an influence because of their political beliefs and mostly secular style of governing themselves. They were also inspired by the Americans revolting due to taxation, as the French were taxed vigorously without being able to have a say against it, just as the Americans were.
