"How did the Constitution guard against tyranny?" That's a question many of us ask ourselves when we learn about the Constitution US Studies, but when we look at the details of the document closer it's all right in front of us. The constitution was written on September 17th, 1787, in Philadelphia, and it was made to protect the people of this country from tyrannical rule by the government. Without this document our country could rule over us anyway they please from president to president. Another way to describe how the government protects against tyranny is federalism. The state government control the parts of the government that effect the people of that state such as marriage, making schools, and holding elections. The federal government has the power to do things such as starting wars, regulating trade, and printing currency. Federalism protects against tyranny by dividing power between the state and government, which helps from the government having too much power over the people and their lives and instead gives that power to the state to regulate it. These checks include seeing whether new laws are within the Constitution, or seeing if the president's acts are Constitutional, and if they are not, they'll be denied. One piece of evidence is how the executive branch can veto congressional legislations that are seen as unconstitutional, or tyrannical. A second example is how the legislative branch can impeach the president if they are found doing unconstitutional or tyrannical. The third guard protects against tyranny because without these checks of power our branches of government can gain too much power and become tyrannical in controlling our country. We have these checks to keep each branch of government from overreaching their power and become too powerful to
