The Revolution broke out across America between 1810 and 1826. Latin America had tried everything to get independence from Spain and they were not going to stop pushing until they were successful. Although all the social classes except the peninsulares were involved, the Creoles took the leading role in the fight for freedom. Why did the creoles lead the fight? The Creoles led the revolutions in Latin America because of a desire for political power, economic conditions and power, and nationalism. In the battle to get independence from Spain, The Creoles were striving to gain and receive political power. They wanted to gain the political power so that the could get high up on the very top of that pyramid.While the Creoles wanted to overthrow the peninsulares to gain political representation for themselves, they also wanted to continue looking out for the other social classes power. As they were trying to make it up the pyramid they also wanted to make sure that they stayed where they were on the pyramid and didn’t make their way down. Even though the Creoles always wanted to be above the non-Europeans, they had felt a connection to the Indians because of nationalism. “ we are disputing with the natives for titles of ownership, and at the same time we are struggling to maintain ourselves in the country that gave us birth…” The Creoles struggled to choose what they wanted. They were born the Americas(Spaniards) but their ancestors were from Europe. So they had a conflict because of loyalty to their homeland. The Creoles didn’t consider themselves and Spaniards even though that was their home land. Also, father Miguel Hidalgo (Mexican revolutionary priest) saw the Spanish as bad people so he demanded that the Creoles “ recover the land stolen three hundred years ago from your forefathers by the hated Spaniards? We must act at once….Will you defend your religion and your rights as true patriots?” (Doc.e) This revolutionary was considered a good thing for their, the Creoles, country. The Spanish were people that were not welcome and didn’t have the right to have the power of Latin America. So revolution would have been the best choice in this situation and time.
