Along with social factors, the economic factors of America helped influence the revolution. Mercantilism was a theory mostly picked up by the British and their colonies, and was thought to be “… thoroughly selfish and deliberately oppressive.” (Edward, pg124) Mercantilism prevented other foreign colonies from gaining prophet from the British, and the British colonies were forced to only buy British goods. The Navigation Act was a sequence of laws that prevented foreign shipping for trade between England and its colonies. The navigation act was passed for two principle reasons, to protect shipping and to gain profit for Britain. This particular act caused that period of time a curtain of annoyance.
