If you’re looking for a way to travel, then you have one. What is it, you ask? Well it’s the perfect Route from Albany to Buffalo. Ok, let me get to that. It’s the Erie Canal. Built in the early 1800’s, this phenomena took about a decade to build. They went through a wall of limestone to build it. It had many locks. Most amazingly, the boats are pulled by mules. Now, let’s see how the Erie Canal changed the United States. The Erie Canal’s creation would have a dramatic change on America because of money, Abolition and movements, but the most important was the transportation that it provided.
The Erie Canal made a lot of money, until the 1850’s, when the train system was made. Although the train system didn’t directly affected the canal, it sure decreased the revenue. The train system was quite fast; however, you would have to change trains multiple times. In turn, the Erie Canal was a more efficient form of transportation. At first, the revenue was a lot more then what was paid to keep it in shape, but eventually, the costs came up as less people travelled on the canal. This is probably why it is closed. A lot of slavery abolition happened along the Erie Canal, as well as Many Underground Railroad stations were held along the Erie Canal. The “Burned Over” district was near the Erie Canal.
