One of the major goals of the American Civil Rights movement was to give all people regardless of race, equal rights. In the United States, civil rights are for all people. Throughout history, people have had to fight for their rights when others tried to deny them. Today, all people enjoy the benefits of civil rights advocates. For them to do this, they had to fight in many cases. Another goal they accomplished was they changed how the United States felt about African Americans. A quote that talks about 6 main changes they have done to civil rights is, “The NAACP’s initiatives for the 21st century can best be summarized by its six ‘Game Changers’: economic sustainability, education, health, public safety and criminal justice, voting rights and political representation, and expanding youth and young adult engagement” (NAACP). The quote shows what progress the group has made after starting in 1909. Another event that changed civil rights is that they kept African Americans from illegal drugs. One goal was to ensure political, educational, social, and economic equality for all Americans. They also seek to remove all barriers of racial discrimination by using the democratic process. Another goal was to remove lynching and segregation from all public schools and buildings. Though one the NAACP’s main goal was for blacks to have equal rights just like whites. Also wanted blacks to have high-paying jobs and equal voting rights. They also wanted white people to stop doing violence on blacks. Also for everyone to have the rights stored in 3 amendments to the Constitution. These amendments were the 13th, 14th, and 15th. The 13th amendment initially should have ended slavery. In addition the 14th was for equal protection of the law, and 15th for males to have suffrage. As a result, many of these goals were outstanding, but some were not. The NAACP will still work to accomplish these goals and do what they can to make America better.(naacp.org)
