How Did The Tent Embassy Affect Australia

The Tent Embassy was one of the most significant protests that shaped land rights and equality for the Aboriginal people. In this process four men set up a tent outside the parliament house and represented the Aboriginals rights. The embassy was formed on the basis that all people are equal and that no person should be discriminated by their skin color. The tent embassy protest changed the motives of Aboriginals and the government, changed the actions and methods of the Aboriginals involved and as a result this protest impacted Indigenous rights and freedom.
Many aboriginals fought and protested in support of the tent embassy. The tent embassy had a massive impact on the population of Australia as it had nationwide media coverage as well as supporters from all around the country. The tent embassy had demanded that they have full control of the Northern Territory, and legal mining titles to fairly allocate mining land. Additionally, they demanded six billion dollars in down payments to the Aboriginal community. As a result of the government declining this request, the Aboriginals started major riots. These protests attracted very angry protesters from all over Australia and made their sense of disturbance very noticeable for the Australian government. The Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976 was the first attempt by an Australian government to legally recognize the Aboriginal system of land ownership and put into law the concept of inalienable freehold title.
