4. The Vietnam War saw the use of many controversial military tactics used by both the United States and their allies, as well as the Viet Cong and NVA. On the American side, one of the most prevalent and well known missions was Operation Ranch Hand, a decade long herbicidal warfare campaign that is still causing terrible birth defects to this day. The herbicides used in Agent Orange were contaminated with an even worse chemical, known as TCDD, which is a heavy carcinogen and teratogen. In the period that it was used, agricultural lands were sprayed with Agent Orange in an attempt to starve the enemy by destroying the main crop in the region, rice.
South Vietnam was low in troops and the U.S provided more soldiers to stand allies while they got casualties out of South Vietnam into safer ground. There was children and women who suffered injuries and some who died, but knowing there was help they had
the Vietnamese soldiers lost a lot of food supplies and lost some of their hiding positions. The war began with an alert from the two U.S. destroyers docked at the Gulf of Tonkin, they were attacked by North Vietnamese troops. What the U.S. did not know or were confused about was were they in Vietnam waters, or were they in a different area near Vietnam waters? Having several incidents occurring President Lyndon B. Johnson declares war on Vietnam for attacking one of ours without a reason to do so or without a provoke of any sort. That was when the Vietnam war began and Lyndon B. Johnson sent troops to Vietnam to try and take them over with just invading
The war just showed signs of failure. The government put such a great amount of work into there lies only for every one of the certainties to turn out later. Nothing the government said we could trust. The armed force influenced it to appear as though it was Nobel thing they were doing by assaulting Vietnam the way they did however it wasn't at all courageous. The grim pictures showed in document 7 showed more than enough to show the citizens that America went to Vietnam causing mass terror on civilians."
There were many consequences of the War in Vietnam including large death toll, the effects of Agent Orange, and negative effects on the government. One of the most immediate losses of the Vietnam War was the number of civilians that lost their lives. Throughout the Indochina War, “400,000

The Vietnam soldiers suffered from multiple social difficulties. They were considered an unstable and dangerous group of people. Many of the men were treated like outcasts. The men were bombarded with hate. Lots suffered from Post-Traumatic Stress disorder.

The Vietnam War has affected the U.S. economically, socially, and politically. First, the war decreased the U.S. economy.
The Vietnam War happened from 1954 to 1975, it was the longest war that the United States ever fought beside the Civil War. Vietnam is located southeast of Asia, near Thailand. The Vietnam War was fought over communist expansion. More than 3 million people were killed in this war. The war began with South Vietnam and North Vietnam.
The Vietnam war took a major death toll in Vietnam, United States, South Korea, Thailand, New Zealand, and Australia. Just in the U.S., “more than 58,000 American soldiers were killed while more than 150,000 others wounded”. On both sides, there were almost 2 million civilians dead and 1.1 simply on the Vietnamese side. The My Lai Massacre, where soldiers brutally killed Vietnamese children and mothers, presents an example where the war mentally changed the soldiers in the war in a very horrendous way. On the other hand, the United States took brutal losses in the Tet Offensive, where the Vietcong slaughtered over 100 towns and twelve United States air bases.
In using artillery and air power of weapons like the M163 Vulcan, M42A1 Skysweeper, and the MIM23 Hawk we were able to take down our enemies. There was 2.7 million soldiers that served in the Vietnam War. In this being said there were 58,000 that died or remained missing, and 300,000 that were wounded. More than one hundred forty billion dollars was spent on this war. The U.S failed to overcome its objective of preserving an independent, noncommunist state in Vietnam, now no one knows how or why we fought this war or weather the military outcome was possible for the United States.
Due to a fear of communism and what some politicians would call a “domino effect” the United States sent troops to Vietnam. It what is one of the countries most lengthy foreign engagements in which a total of 47,434 service members were killed (Washington Post). No longer did the people at home just read about the horrors of war, thanks to an influx in war journalists, people were now actually seeing the reality of conflict on their television screens at home. In response to our nation's continuous involvement in Indochina, protests began erupting in cities like Detroit and Chicago. This only stacks on top of the protests already happening for Civil Rights, and Women's Liberation.
The Vietnam War was a war the United States should have never been involved in. The “Domino Theory” was a direct cause of the war. The war resulted in much death; innocent civilians and young Americans were killed. The Vietnam war also resulted in rioting, distrust for the United States government, and the loss of many lives. 58,000 Americans were killed and 300,000 were wounded.
Ho Chi Minh, Former Prime Minister of Vietnam, once said: “You can kill ten of my men for every one I kill of yours. But even at those odds, you will lose and I will win” (Vietnam War Quotations). Vietnam is in Southeast Asia with the population of 96 million. The country border China, Laos and Cambodia (The World Factbook: VIETNAM).
