Have you ever flown in an airplane? If you have, it's all thanks to the Wright brothers. The Wright brothers were interested in flying since they were kids. “As children in Dayton, Ohio, their favorite toy was a small helicopter-like object that was powered by a rubber band to twirl its blades” (kids). That experience sparked a goal to make flying possible. It actually took them four years to make flying a reality. Their success wasn’t appreciated at all. That was the reason that Wilbur traveled to Europe to sell their planes in 1908. Later, Orville and their little sister Katherine joined Wilbur in Europe. In France, the brothers signed a contract for selling planes and started selling them in 1909. The brothers soon became celebrities. They got paid $25,000 per plane that flies for an hour at 40 mph. “They gave rides to officials, journalists, and salesmen”(editors) to promote their business.
Following their success, Wilbur was made president of the Wright company. They kept upgrading the plane. Eventually Wilbur died from typhoid fever in 1912. After Wilbur's death, Orville became president of the company. He later sold the company in 1916. Unfortunately, Orville died in 1948 from suffering 2 heart attacks. Their first airplane went to a Smithsonian museum after they both passed.
They had many accomplishments during and after their lifetimes. They received a total of 15 honorary degrees, and numerous awards. They were featured in newspapers and hosted by royals.
