John Locke, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Denis Diderot, and Baron de Montesquieu were all part of the Enlightenment. John Locke an American enlightenment thinker thought people had natural rights and that government should have limited power. Baron de Montesquieu a French enlightenment thinker developed the ideas of separation of powers and check and balances. Denis Diderot also a French enlightenment thinker created an encyclopedia that explained the new ideas on the topics of government, philosophy, and religion. Framers of the United States Constitution would use these ideas.
Our society would not be what it is today if it wasn't for the three French philosophers for the individual freedom, freedom in government, religion, economy, and gender equality. John Locke, Voltaire, and Adam Smith were four of the many great philosophers, who changed our society and the shaped the capitalistic democratic world that we live in today. These philosophers lived in a time of bright and amazing new ideas, known as the Age of Enlightenment or the Age of Reason. Here are the main ideas of Enlightenment. The philosophers of the Enlightenment created today. The Enlightenment was a time full of new ideas ranging from the 1620’s to the 1780’s. The philosophers of the time, including Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, and Baron de Montesquieu all had grand ideas. The ideas were fueled by the opposition to the government or other issues the philosopher faced. These ideas were so revolutionary they live on in the minds of people fighting for equality and freedom today.
Enlightenment? This was a system that would help people be more organized and also helped the government. One, Thomas Hobbes who was a philosopher and political theorist whose book the Leviathan ended up being kicked off the enlightenment in England. Two, John Locke, he was an English political theorist who focused on the structure of government.
“Curiosity is the lust of the mind. ”-Thomas Hobbes Thomas Hobbes was a man that left an eternal influence on political thought. Hobbes was born in Westport, Wiltshire on April 5, 1588.
Three of these thinkers were Benjamin franklin, John Locke, and Thomas Hobbes. Thomas hobbes was one of the very first enlightened thinkers. He pretty much kicked off enlightenment in England, by writing a book called Leviathan. The book gave some of Thomas’s theories which were that all humans are inherently selfish and evil, and some stuff on government and monarchy. Later in the 1600s-1700s came along John Locke.
THE U.S CONSTITUION With all the different philosophers, on cannot really tell who is the main contributor to the constitution. There were so many great minds throughout history, they had similar ideas but at the same time very different ideas. One example of this Thomas Hobbes and John Locke.

The Scientific Revolution played a critical role in the development of the Enlightenment. This revolution influenced the establishment of a new group of philosophical scholars who were focused on human improvement. The Scientific Revolution is the period between sixteenth and seventeenth century that was accompanied by the emergence of modern day science. It was a period where the development in the fields of mathematics, chemistry, biology, physics and astronomy changed the views of the society (Nardo). On the other hand, the Enlightenment was the age of reason that was a philosophical movement that occurred in Europe followed by North America in the eighteenth century.

I enjoyed reading about the different political philosophers, in chapter six. One of the political philosophers that I related to was Thomas Hobbes. “Hobbes was one of the major political philosophers to describe the relationship between individuals and the state” (Mason, Gardner, Outlaw, & O’Grady, 2012, p. 53). There are many people in the world that like to be rebellious or state that they hate rule and regulations. Some individuals think rules are unnecessary or too restrictive.
The works of the philosophers Thomas Hobbes and Jean- Jacques Rousseau have continued to rival each even though they were never alive during the same period of time. Thomas Hobbes and Jean- Jacques Rousseau both have conflicting views on “Human Nature”. Rousseau being the younger of the two analyzed Hobbes’ work and seemed to deduce the almost opposite of what Hobbes had believed himself. There have been many debates and arguments throughout time that has given valid arguments for both sides to be correct and even points from both that form an appealing ideal to some. Regardless of the opposition of beliefs, the two have a place etched in history as two of the most influential writers and thinkers ever.
As Rousseau was in Paris he disagreed with most of the ideas of what some philosophers believed. Some philosophers believed that reason, science, and art would improve life for all people. Rosseau on the other hand argued that civilizations corrupted peoples natural goodness in life. “Man is born free and everywhere he is in chains” he stated. To Rousseau 's view, people lived as free and equal individual in a “State of nature” as primitives.
Abstract During 17th century many political thinkers who have worked backed then have laid the foundation for the modern natural and political science. Among many names the name of English philosopher Thomas Hobbes who is the supporter of absolutism of state power is distinguished. His devotion to science and philosophy has allowed him to achieve significant results in the field of philosophy, which makes his works and writings very important and interesting up to this day. His numerous works are not completely exhausted and out of date and they are still in demand, both in theory and practical terms. According to Hobbes the State is the highest possible power and it “can do away with all that he pleases”.
I decide with locke I believe people are naturally good. Locke once said ,”People are naturally reasonable and moral,”. The reason i believe this is because people help each other out when something bad happens or we help other people out when people are in need. Here are some real life examples. During Hurricane Harvey a furniture store owner in houston opened his store has a shelter for 400 people and feed them breakfast, lunch and dinner for the evacuees.
