Thomas Paine’s Common Sense was a pamphlet he wrote to encourage Americans to rebel against the British which led to the American Revolution and America gaining its independence. Paine thesis was destroying America’s loyalty to the British and convince them to revolt. In the pamphlet Paine’s strong thesis on American rebellion on British oppression and some strong key points Paine discussed led to encouragement for the American People to rebel against the British and gaining their independence. Paine believes that society is when everyone joins together to accomplish everything. Government is an institution whose purpose is to protect people. Also Paine believes a governments purpose is to protect life, liberty and property for its people. Paine then begins ranting about why American should not be oppressed by British power and the Americans need to fight a war for their independence. Paine then lists major problems with the British Political System. He believes that rulers such as kings and aristocrats who inherit their power instead of gaining their power through a democratic election is not a good suit. With inheriting power, Paine believes the people have no choice to choose their power of government. Also with a monarchy, there is no path of freedom, and no democracy. If the U.S. wants to follow Democracy, then they should part ways from the British. Then in the end of the pamphlet, Paine talks about the religious group the Quakers and tells them that they shouldn’t get their religious views mixed up with American politics. Then he discusses how Monarchies are unfair. Paine believes that there is no reason for a division between a king and his royal subjects. Also, he believes that a king does not earn his role as a king. He’s born into it because his dad was a king. Paine blames the Jews for ruining the modern world, and being the first to make a monarch exist. Paine believes that the only person with the right to control is God. According to Paine’s perception of the bible, God punished the Jewish people for trying to create a human-god by making someone a king. The main thing that bothers Paine about monarchs is that they gain their power through descendants of the same family, and within that, the people that come to power are not always good ones. Also, Paine believes that having a king that is extremely young or extremely old can be terrible. With that situation, the kings themselves technically have no say, they just go by what the outsiders around the throne tell
