How has the woman’s status changed before and after Islam?
Introduction
A significant difference can be seen regarding the status of woman before and after Islam. Many old cultures and societies disqualified woman from her rights and preferred to give it only to men. On the other hand Islam forbids gender inequality and gave the woman her full rights in different aspects in life. Woman had really suffered before Islam, but Islam came to honor her and give her full rights and appreciation.

They wanted to expand to these fertile areas. This expansion ended up to be a war between the societies. From here the real inequality and discrimination between men and woman started. Because of the war, societies started to see that the woman is just a heavy burden, and they believed in the importance of men. So the tribes started complaining when they got baby girl. In Addition many men had sold their wives in return to buy slavers for agricultural responsibilities.
Female Infanticide
Before Islam female infanticide was one of the most popular phenomena. Infanticide is the crime of killing a female baby within a year of birth. “When the female (infant), buried alive, is questioned, for what crime she was killed”[81:9]. They were afraid of poverty and humiliation. Islam came later on to change all of this and forbids this phenomenon. Also in the Greek culture, when the family got the 10th girl they used to kill 7 of their daughters. And it criticized the attitudes that they used to do when they have a female baby and the way of rejecting her by the following Ayah: "When news is brought to one of them, of (the Birth of) a female (child), his face darkens and he is filled with inward grief! With shame does he hide himself from his people because of the bad news he has had! Shall he retain her on (sufferance) and contempt, or bury her in the dust? Ah! What an evil (choice) they decide on?" [16:58-59]
Despite to the old Arabian tribes that were killed their daughters because they didn’t want them to suffer from justice and inequality, Kindness and justice is required while treating females. Among the sayings of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) in this regard are the following: “Whomsoever has three daughters, three sisters, two daughter, or two sisters, is very kind and nice to them, and fears Allah in their treatment, will be admitted to Paradise”
