This time in history can be described as a time of change, and a time when women were not at the forefront of attention. This doesn’t mean that they were not existent, it means that they were not apart of the serious events that happened during this time. Women had their own little world they lived in and was overshadowed by men. Overall women did have a lot of opportunities but they also had a lot of limitations. In England at the time, women were seen as maidens, wives, nuns, and widows (Mortimer 54). It was seen as only men getting educated and having a right to speak publicly. So the women’s main purpose was to stay at home and raise a family. But if you lived in different environments such as rural or urban, the role the women had might differ. Women that lived in the countryside, played a big role in the success of the farm or business. The women that lived in rural or cities, didn’t have the opportunity to work on farms, so they stayed in the homes. Most of the the time men were hard at work and needed someone to comfort them after a long day’s work. A big part of the way women lived was the social status of their family. Women that lived with a lot of wealth lived a better life then the ones that were poor. But this still doesn't mean that women were seen as having a lot of authority. Women were still not allowed to vote and to be able to voice their opinions in public, no matter how much money they had. There were alot of limitations against women and cannot help to have sympathy for them. Men were labeled as the gender that dominated almost everything at this time, and women were almost just live slaves. Women had very few opportunities to display their talents and abilities, and it remained fairly constant over the
