Throughout history, we have came across many authors with different writing styles, word choice,or unique ways of interpretations. Edgar Allen Poe is one author who stands out to me the most. He has a unique and dark way of writing his stories and it appeals to the readers emotion and drama. He has a recurring theme of death and lost love, and in “The Tell-Tale Heart” Poe writes about murder, insanity, obsession and guilt. His use of symbolism and point of view is another reason what makes Poe one of the greatest.

Most of the suspense is either created by quotes or just by simple details, that make you wonder what happens next persuading you to read more. In this story, one of the main parts that creates the suspense is the old man's eye, The man's eye is not liked by narrator since it was pale blue with a noticeable film over it, looking like he was given an eye of the vulture. The story gave several suspenseful quotes that made me want to know more.

" the vulture like eye that he saw could have made him feel as if it was after him. He said that it was "a pale blu eye (Poe)" the eye could have been a pale blue color because the old man could have been blind in one eye. He was anxious because of the eye.

He goes “boldly” into the chamber, “cunningly” sticks his head in the doorway and feels “the extent of his own power”. Poe’s use of diction shows how cocky the man actually is.

By way of his description, he has told someone who thinks he is lunatic. He never believes he is mad, but no disease can make people’s sense sharper, the disease just is he provides an explanation or illusion. “There came to my ears a low, dull, quick sound, such as a watch makes when enveloped in cotton”(Poe 3). This sentence repeats twice in the story, later one acts, in cooperation with each other. Both of them mean the narrator heard the sound of the old man’s heart beat.
The short story “the tale-tell heart” by Edgar Allan Poe infers that anyone can be a killer no matter who they are, “I was as friendly to the old man as I could be and warm and loving.” Here in the narrator’s thoughts, the reader can see that he was nice to the old man before killing him. Also the key word “was” infers that they used to be someone else before killing and they were a close friend that ended up deciding to kill. “My anger became greater and more painful.” The thoughts of the narrator demonstrates, that they are becoming more tempted to kill over the course of time.

Deconstruction is a method of critical analysis that emphasizes the internal workings of language and conceptual systems, the relationships of meaning, and the assuming forms of expression. Deconstruction calls for a double reading of the text. The first reading of a text follows the typical form of understanding, which results in a single interpretation.
