There are many outstanding themes in the book “The Kite Runner”. Brotherhood, Love, betrayal, and loyalty. Given these themes, loyalty was one of the most important. This book shows loyalty by using the characters. Loyalty is expressed by the attitudes and personality of the characters, situations they go through, an their adulthood changes. The attitudes and personality of the people in this novel change throughout the story. This particular aspect shows how each person made some changes in their character, and heart. Firstly in the story Amir is very jealous of anyone his father shows attention to. Amir feels that his father’s attention to should belong to just him. Amir’s contribution to loyalty is not very consistent until his later years. In the beginning of the novel Amir does not show loyalty to his friend, Hassan. They do mischievous things and Hassan is the one who has to take the blame. Amir’s personality is not that he is mean, or aggressive, he just feels strongly about the affection of his father. Amir’s other personality, Coward, is another trait that supports the theme loyalty. In the book Amir’s cowardness is shown whenever him and Hassan get into the altercation with Assef. Whenever Amir was older, Rahim Khan is the one who told Amir all of the news that was happening in Kabul while he was in california. In this part of the novel we find out that Hassan knew that Amir was there when Hassan was raped. He knew and nw Rahim khan knew. After Rahim Khan broke the news to Amir about Hassan’s murder, Amir knew that he had to take care of Sohrab, Hassan’s son, in order to be forgiven. If Rahim Khan would not have called Amir and helped him, he would have had to live with that sin forever. Amir changes because of Rahim Khan. It shows Amir that there are better things in life than holding on to past
