How Does Anne Frank Change Throughout The Novel

Throughout the course of the novel “Anne Frank The Diary of a Young Girl” the main idea of Anne’s feelings for Peter changes. In the beginning, Anne does not care for Peter. On page 25, in regards to Peter, Anne writes “No one takes him seriously, he is so frightfully touchy and lazy… in addition ‘M’lord’ complains… he is a real hypochondria (that’s the word for such people, isn’t it?)!” In this quote, Anne shows how she is quite annoyed with Peter. Also, in the beginning of the novel, Peter is scarcely mentioned. On pages 115-117, instead of continuously writing about Peter, as she would later in the novel, Anne writes an ode to her beloved fountain pen. Her feelings in the beginning of the novel quite differ from her feelings for Peter later in the novel. To continue, in the middle, almost all of Anne talks about is Peter. In the pages 151-185, about 71% of the entries are about Peter or mention Peter with love and happiness. On page 165, Anne admits to it. She writes “Kitty, I’m just like someone in love, who can only talk about their darling. And Peter really is a darling.” Anne’s newfound love for Peter is impacted by the idea of living in close quarters. It is much easier to love someone who you are stuck with and constantly seeing than to argue day and night with them. Similarly, the main idea of character development coincides with the newfound love for Peter. Anne is going through an emotional change in puberty, where she begins to like boys. Blech! Nevertheless, without these factors, Anne wouldn't have fallen in love with Peter. Lastly, in the end, Anne becomes more thoughtful and looses some of her love for Peter.
