A Light in the Dark

Anne Frank once said, “I keep my ideals, because in spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart.” Many people know that Anne Frank was an extraordinary diarist, truly an optimist, and a spunky, energetic girl, but did they know that she was wise beyond her years? She changed the world by blessing humanity with her extraordinary literature skills and imagination. She showed that even in horrible times, people could make the most out of it, and not wallow in their misery. She left a legacy as the light in the dark. Earlier times leading up to the arrest of Anne Frank and her Annex family were full of interesting events and emotion. The Franks went into hiding because Margot had received a call-up for a “work camp” in Germany CX(Colbert 37). They were deeply suspicious, so instead they hid from the Nazis CD. The Annex was located in Amsterdam at their father’s workplace (bio.com). They were joined by Otto Frank’s coworker and his family, the Van Daans. Soon after being introduced to the many rooms they would stay in, they gave it the name “Secret Annex” (Colbert 38). They added a bookshelf to conceal the entrance (Christianson OL). Their life in the Secret Annex had begun. The four main people who helped the Franks and Van Daans throughout their stay were Miep Gies, Johannes Kleiman, Victor Kugler, and Bep Voskuijl (Colbert 36).
