During World War II, the German Reich marched across the entire continent of Europe. During the Holocaust, many people became discouraged and lost hope in the future of society. However, the excerpts from “Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl,” written by herself, and “Hitler Youth: Growing up in Hitler’s Shadow” by Susan Campbell Bartoletti, prove that being positive and persevering is the best thing that someone can do. Whether hiding from the Nazis or already taken by them, the best response to have during conflict and chaos is maintaining a positive outlook on life and to persist through difficult times.
Environment can have an enormous influence on identity and for Anne Moody we saw how her experiences put a burden on herself. Growing up in rural Mississippi at a time where racism was highly recognized, Anne Moody was categorized just like every other black woman in her community, working for the white people trying to meet ends meet, powerless, uneducated and running after men and having babies. Her mother was a prime example of the stereotypical black woman during that time, having many kids, her husband leaving her for another woman, getting into a relationship with another man, uneducated and slaving over jobs to provide for her children. Reading this novel, I saw the identity of Anne Moody’s mother deteriorating, from Anne’s childhood
A social bandit is someone who is tired of law enforcements not taking action when the people are being oppressed, and decides to take matter into his own hands. Joaquin Murieta was called the Mexican Robin Hood by the people and a desperado by those who opposed him. Like many in the mid 1800s, Murieta traveled to California in search of wealth in the mines. After some mishaps, oppression and running into trouble with neighboring Anglos, Murieta later rebelled and turned to a life of crime. But he only committed crimes against those oppressed him and his people.
Anne’s relationship with her mother is gradually maturing and improving. “ I used to be furious with Mummy, and still am sometimes.” This shows that Anne still gets angry with her mother, but not all the time. This shows that her relationship with her mother is getting better because Anne used to get mad at her mother all the time. In that sentence she said “sometimes” .
She didn’t want to tell the truth about what happened in the woods to the adults because she wanted to protect herself. She manipulated the young girls to lie and say they were only dancing, “And mark this. Let either of you breathe a word, or the edge of a word, about the other things, and I will come to you in the black of some terrible night and I will bring a pointy reckoning that will shudder you”(Miller).

And finally when Annemarie lied to the Nazis to protect the Rosens and her uncle. “My uncle Henrik forgot his lunch and I’m taking it to him. He’s a fisherman.” (page 113) This lie showed how she had come closer to the Rosen family and her Uncle Henrik, because if she didn’t make it to the ship in time they would have been

In the book “Number the Stars”, Annemarie faces a lot of lies and truth that affected the story. She was forced to be brave and trust her parents and adults to make her feel safe by lies. Our main hero Annemarie slowly goes from girlhood to adulthood. In order to make Annemarie feel safe, the parents and relatives in the story had to make code words and tell lies to Annemarie so she wouldn’t worry and be as brave as a lion when the time was right.
Anne Frank atttained her success through her hardships in her life. My dog's collard chafed his neck until I came and took it off of him. I have a reverence towards God because he created the world for everyone to live on. The citizens of Paris suffered vile torture when ISIS started bombing them.
