Biography
Marcus Antonius (Antony) was born in Rome in 83 BC. His father was a military commander. His grandfather was a noted consul and orator. In 54 BC Antony became a staff officer for his mother’s cousin Julius Caesar.
During Caesar’s first year as a dictator of Rome, Antony was his second in command. In 49 BC he was elected a tribune and served in the Roman senate.

Thesis: Antony became a stronger leader after the death of Julius Caesar
Mark Antony loved Caesar very much and would do anything for him. In the beginning of the play Antony looks as though he is only a yes man for Caesar. When Caesar asks him to touch Calphurain as he races by her, Antony replies: “When Caesar says do this, it is performed.” Antony seems to be more interested in parties, plays, music, and etc. then politics. Caesar trusts him because of this. He doesn’t see him as a threat. Brutus also sees Antony as nothing more than Caesar’s puppet. When he and Cassius are plotting to kill Caesar, Cassius suggests they should kill Antony as well, but Brutus replies: “And for Mark Antony, think not of him for he can do no more then Caesar’s arm when Caesar’s head is off.” …show more content…

After he hears of Caesars death he sends his servant to talk to Brutus. He wants Brutus to know he understands why they had to kill Caesar, but not to kill him. He wants to come and see Brutus and talk but he is afraid. Brutus sees Antony as a coward and tells him to come and he will not be harmed. But Cassius is not
