Communication in A Wrinkle in Time
Communication plays a big role in society, and can be used in many different ways. In Madeleine L’Engles science fiction novel, A Wrinkle in Time, her characters faces the evil red-eyed man. He’s a mysterious man who appears in their journey on the planet Comozotz. They encounter him in a mind battle which the red-eyed man plays mind games with them while the children tries to go against of fight him off. They both argued and tries to distract each other, but the children mostly focuses on not getting mind controlled. The red-eyed man prefers to communicate non-verbally while Charles Wallace favor to communicate verbally.
Like in most of our society, we communicate by talking and expressing ourselves. In other words Charles Wallace believes that the using the verbally use of interacting with each other is better to use than using mind tricks. “The spoken is one of the triumphs of man…and I intend to continue using it...” Charles Wallace continues to talk even after the red-eyed man said he could understand him without talking. As Charles Wallace was talking, it shows more emotion and tone to the words

For instance, as he was “talking” with Meg, Calvin, and Charles Wallace, he said, “And by the ways my children, he continued blandly, you don’t need to vocalize with me, you know. I can understand you quite as well you can understand me.” This shows that he could understand what they were thinking of feeling without interacting with each other. Though it’s an invasion of privacy for the kids. And they are forced to listen to him because he was in their minds. Also as he speaks non verbally, it is quite monotone and has no emotion to the voice or thought. There is also no volume to it as opposed to speaking which shows more emotions and tone.
