Through our nation's history we have seen many acts of civil disobedience. Most of these acts have come as a response to the cruel treatment of minorities in the United States. I believe that peaceful resistance to laws positively impacts a free society. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is a prime example of the positive power of civil disobedience. Dr. King impacted this country largely with the work of his peaceful resistance. The government and the racists white Americans reacted to Dr. King's movement with violence, threats, and murder. This treatment was seen throughout the nation. We remember those like Malcolm X as more infamous people because their ways of solving the problem was to fight back violently. I believe the quote, "You can't fight fire with fire," is a good example of trying to solve these problems with the same violence. It only gives the tyrant look when trying to violently fight back. Trying to solve the problem in a civil manner shows that violence is not being trying to be obtained. I believe that breaking a law, peacefully, in order to gain a right that should already be granted is more than okay to do. Today, the nation is gradually steering away from civil disobedience and is again trying to find a solution with violence. In recent news, the "Black Lives Matter" movement is happening. Many African Americans are protesting in the streets and public events and various other places, trying to fight for equality like our ancestors did in the 1950's through the 1960's. Many are protesting peacefully and not harming anyone but more and more African lives are being taken and this is sparking up another violent movement in which many African Americans may again try to fight for their rights and equality that they shouldn't even have to fight for.
