Lamb to the Slaughter Essay A person's true identity will not be revealed if only noticed by their physical appearance. In Roald Dahl’s short story “Lamb to the Slaughter,” a frozen lamb leg is used by Mary Maloney, a housewife, to kill her husband. In the ¨Lamb to the Slaughter,¨ Roald Dahl uses dramatic irony to convey the theme that situations are not always what they appear to be. The cops scan for the murder weapon which they believe is ¨probably right under¨ their ¨very noses¨ (Dahl 57). While the cops eat the lamb chop as well as try to decipher where the murder weapon is, they do not expect the murder weapon to be the food they consume; however, the reader knows that the murder weapon is the lamb chop.
