By definition, evil is “The opposite or absence of good.” Yes, people can be evil but is the idea of being good always absent? There is always some good in everyone, even if it may be the smallest amount. In his novel Lord of the Flies, Golding portrays human nature as evil; although this is an accurate presentation of human nature, the novel highlights vicious acts while also displaying the good in humanity with sympathy and emotion. George Orwell is the author of the popular book Animal Farm, in the book the animals rebel against the humans and hope to live equal and happily. It becomes very ironic especially with the fact the promising ideas slowly developed to become immoral, just like human nature can be as well. In the novel there were many ideas that were good and evil, they may be vicious and not correct but on the other hand there is always sympathy and emotion behind it. The view taken on human nature determines whether it is deemed good or evil. Yes, human nature is evil, yet it also is good. It can be shifted into so many ways that eventually both become the correct ideology. There are many arguments to prove human nature to be evil but there are equal amounts to correctly prove it is good. Just like in this certain situation compared to Animal Farm “Several of them would have protested if they could have found the right arguments.” (Orwell, 54) The way someone looks at a situation determines the overall idea. Humans have caused so many problems and have committed to many problems in the world but forgetting the good parts of human nature is where the idea of being both good and bad becomes lost. That is a situation that sadly happened to two young competitive cheerleaders sitting in the back of the car and both of their mothers in the front. The two best friends were in the back of a car when one of the mothers was driving and another car crashed into theirs. All four of them remain in the hospital and the two girls have serious injuries and remain in the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. One of the girls is injured so badly that she needs face reconstructive surgery and the other has a broken femur. The driver in the other car that crashed into the girls was not under the influence or anything in that nature, he simply took his eyes off the road for a second. Though it was an unbelievably dreadful thing to do and extremely dangerous, it does not mean what he did dictates the view on human nature. The mothers received many gifts and donations to support the girls and their injuries. The emotions expressed through the people that have heard of this problem online caused the mother to express that “Just to know we’re so loved by people who don’t even know us is a blessing.”(WSAZ News) Humans are truly amazing when people are truly in need of help, yes the problem would not have happened without another person doing something wrong, but in the end empathy is always there.
