From coping with of loss, gaining responsibilities, and learning to accept his town and his life, Harry is able to make this transition. Even after learning he is a wizard, Harry is forced to repress that fact every summer when he must return to his aunt and uncle’s house to await the next school year. This forces Harry into a routine that is tedious, difficult, and borderline oppressive. While at his aunt and uncle’s house, Harry cannot act freely nor express his wishes, desires, or needs. Because of this situation, Harry is always glad to return to Hogwarts, breaking him out of his backbreaking routine and into a world that is ever changing and unpredictable. Here not only does Harry have an unprecedented level of independence, but he is not required to conform to what an uncaring authority figure thinks; the teachers at Hogwarts tend to be fairly forgiving of Harry’s behavior.
Harry Potter sighed sullenly as he plopped himself on his bed at the sixth year dorms in Gryffindor tower while thoughts about the events that transpired in the few weeks that have passed since the start of his sixth year rushed through his mind. It seems that like every year since he started his education at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry when he was at the tender age of eleven his upcoming sixth year would not be uneventful as he hoped. J.K Rowling also included Harry’s friends, mostly Hermione, trying to get information about what was in the Chamber that was coming out and hurting/attacking all of the innocent students that it did attack. For my critical analysis, I have chosen an excerpt from one of my creative documents and have chosen to analyse the use of language in the piece. The work is titled ‘To Wear a Dead Birds Wings’ and this piece of work is from the beginning of the novel in which the main character is held prisoner and has reached the point of insanity. In this creative piece, the use of language is intentionally poetic and symbolic, with intentions of having the reader question what is real and what is not. However the piece is largely expressive, it is not without its faults.

From further understanding the lives and complexities of heroic characters such as Hermione, to schoolboy bullies such as Draco, this trend extends even further to the Dark Lord himself. Rowling offers various flashbacks that allow us, as readers, to see beyond current day Voldemort and know the boy that was Tom Riddle. Such flashbacks into the pensive with Harry and Dumbledore allow readers to finally pull together the reasoning behind Voldemort’s dark demeanor and understand what motivates his horrendous actions.
