Change is the act of becoming different, or making something different. Change can have a negative effect if there are bad consequences, it could be positive if you are bettering yourself. Change through society can affect people 's personal change because if society or the environment is bad then people’s mental health will be bad and they won’t develop through life like they should. Industrialization created a positive change for American society by bringing new things like technology, jobs, and more money to America. Railroads expanded between 1865 and 1890 the number of miles jumped nearly fivefold, this promoted trade and provided many jobs. Trade was a major thing. Around this time congress passed the Sherman Antitrust Act so it would be illegal to form trust the interfered with free trade. Industrialization also created a negative change at one point in the workforce.(Holt, p.473-474) Sweatshops were unsafe. Banks were putting Americans money into stock markets and the national bank was giving brokers loans, this was bad because people never paid the broker 's back. More than five thousand banks closed, during the 20s there was an average of 70 banks failing each year nationally. America was pulled out the great depression by President Roosevelt addressing the high rates of unemployment and poverty, this was a positive aspect because this got many Americans jobs. The Great Depression made people and other countries realized that America was a strong and powerful country because of how they regrouped. In the story the metamorphosis Gregor felt worthless and depressed because he thought he would let his family down since he wasn’t able to work, this relates to the Great Depression because when everyone was losing their jobs and money it was making them sad and they didn’t know what to
