Gatsby has spent his whole life trying to prove to Daisy and everyone around him that he is worthy of her. The only way to be on the same social level as her is to turn himself into new money. Since this is not possible, he has to try to convince to others that he truly is old money. To do this, he becomes rich, and lies about his past, but the only way for him to complete this idea is if he is with Daisy. She is the final piece in his American dream.
During the 1920s, the American Dream was something that many Americans gave blood, sweat, and tears in order to achieve, but the majority of the time, multiple factors prohibited them from ever reaching it. The automobiles in the book show the destruction of lives that the American dream can bring onto a person. In chapter 7, Myrtle is hit by a car and killed, but the car belongs to Gatsby. Although he wasn’t driving, he takes the blame for the murder of Myrtle. As in the text it states “Yes,’ he said after a moment, ‘but of course I’ll say I was” (Fitzgerald 143 ).

He gloats his affluence to her by throwing extravagant parties and flaunting his luxuries Out of love, Gatsby goes above and beyond to win back Daisy’s love.

One day, the teenager decides to create an alter ego that is wealthy and successful in life. As he grew older, he reaches his goal and the future that he had always planned for. The pattern of Gatsby’s transition from poor to wealthy demonstrates the theme that changes are necessary to reach the American Dream.
Jay Gatsby grew up as a child in poverty in North Dakota. After being taken under Dan Cody’s wing, as his personal assistant, Jay realized that he wanted to achieve the american dream, Just like Mr. Cody. Gatsby wanted to become wealthy and successful. When Daisy appears in Gatsby’s life, she reflects perfection and the american dream. Gatsby had planned to marry Daisy but when he returned from the war she had gone and married Tom.
Fitzgerald was made famous by The Great Gatsby mainly for his way in catching the way America was at the time of the Roaring Twenties and also how some people lived the America Dream. Fitzgerald purpose was not just creating the characters what they are not, but also to make they both act as people part of the Roaring Twenties and people who are seeing the eras passed by. Then for him make those characters fit in the Roaring Twenties, he simple puts the elements of the twenties into each and every character in the book. After that he shows how a man who looks like he is living the America Dream is really missing one piece in his life and how he try to complete his that dream and takes the risk of such a high dream.
The American philosophy is people can build their own lives and achieve happiness. America is known as the epitome of a person’s opportunity to recreate one’s self and deny their past.
